Mysterious Al is an artist from London showing for the first time in Sydney..
He began his career painting characters on the street in 2001 and found himself at the forefront of a new art movement called ‘Street-art’. He’s since painted and exhibited extensively around the world.
Al’s work is playful, colourful and spontaneous, but look closer. There’s always something behind a smile.
On the streets, “It’s all love” is a way of saying that beef has been squashed. That conflict is over and amends have been made.
With this new body of work Mysterious Al enjoys a new found energy and positive vibe through his continued exploration of abstract tribal masks.
“This show is about me squashing my own beef. Making these paintings has been like falling in love. Whilst tribal masks were made to bring good luck and ward off tropical diseases, I want these masks to bring peace and positive vibes”.
