Art works to commemorate the Moreton Bay fig trees of Sydney.
Jade is an expression of Gabbi's love and respect for nature, highlighting the magnificence, beauty and vulnerability of trees and the birds that rely on them.
The collection captures the detail and majesty of the Moreton Bay Fig trees of Anzac Parade and Randwick. The unnecessary destruction of these significant trees, by the NSW government, has compelled the artist to spend many hours under their canopies, leading to the creation of these works.
Gabbi Lancaster is an artist living in Sydney, the first twenty years of her art practice has focused on figurative drawing and painting. Her current works express the connection and unity between the human form and forms in nature and landscape.
Sitting in the shade
under the canopy of a majestic Fig Tree
and observing, drawing, painting.
Tracing her lines with a sensitive touch I feel calmed, at peace and protected....
enchanted.
She shelters me, shows me more than I had seen before. Love blooms and deep gratitude for her
untold gifts grow in me,
tainted with sorrow at knowing her
imminent brutal future.
My experiences of connection and love for such venerable, indiscriminately generous, equanimous and glorious giants leads me to continue contemplating, painting, learning, appreciating and honouring the trees.
