Artist Biographies
Sam Shennan -
Sam is a local emerging artist spent 5 months exploring North America in an attempt to uncover the nature of it's unique native cultural tribalism.
What he found was the universal similarity between all cultures.
Over a year has gone into crafting these intricate artworks that bring the surreality of psychedelics to life. He is always a passive observer of the process, and so is surprised by the imagined reality that springs off the page when the work is completed.
Joel Cunningham -
Joel's art practice channels his need for risk taking behaviours, allowing himself the freedom to act on impulse and follow his instincts. His main discipline is sculpture, however his work is experimental and he enjoys working with a variety of media including painting and drawing. His recent work explores various mind states, focusing on the impact a person's thoughts have on their emotional well being. He is concerned with the way these mind states trigger habits and compulsions which overpower logic or rationality.
Joel lives and works in Sydney, Australia. He has completed his studies at Sydney College of the Arts in Rozelle where he attained a Bachelor of Visual Arts with First Class Honours. Prior to that he received a Diploma of Fine Arts at Meadowbank Tafe in Sydney's north west. Joel exhibits his work throughout Australia and Internationally
Julio Castellano -
All this exclusive series was painted whilst he was in Argentina, South America. Julio's artwork takes a bird's eye view of natural, social, political & cultural issues. In his work, he deconstructs pop art, street art, mythology, nature and urban landscapes that are part of our culture and world as humans. By engaging diverse subjects his work reproduces familiar visual signs, arranging them into new conceptually layered pieces that leave questions unanswered engaging the viewer. Often times these themes are combined into works that feature an urban influence of style and textures, juxtaposed with whimsical objects, tribal patterns and often embellished with illustrations. The colours establish a dream-like surreal quality, whilst the illustration formally unifies the disparate objects in each art work. The typography he provides clues to content and interpretation.
He uses a variety of materials and processes in each project such as spray paint, charcoal, acrylics, oil and pastels. The subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the forms of the final piece.
