The Skies Will Break is a group exhibition that looks into urban landscapes and the way people move through them, how we share these busy spaces and the many feelings they evoke. This subject matter is investigated through painting, ceramics and drawing. Taking traditional art forms and bending there conventions.
The works are eclectic, playful and vibrant. Many of which are almost tongue in cheek observational pieces. They make social commentary and capture mundane moments in a new light. Other works are abstract, filled with movement and shapes that draw the viewer in.
Much like the title there is a cyclical nature present. The feeling of being stuck in the loop of existence that a place like Sydney can entail. The act of breaking through that pattern seeps through the colours and line work making the show feel alive and full of kinetic energy.
The artists are very varied and all bring a different approach to art making. What they share in common is that they are all young and have found them selves in the thick of the inner city. Navigating the waves of this complex environment and the competitive landscape of the art world.
