David Henderson Solo Exhibition
Opening night - Friday 17 August
6 – 9pm
“My working methods are grounded in direct experience of my subject and close observation of nature. I normally spend a large part of my year in Italy, which not only allows me access to a wealth of evocative subject matter but also provides an opportunity to enrich my practice through contact with the traditions of European painting and sculpture. Whether I am painting the figure, a Venetian campo or the familiar streets of home, I am seeking to realise my own version of the classical ideal, a synthesis of light and geometry.”
David Henderson spent his early years on his family’s sheep property in central Queensland. After initial studies in architecture in Brisbane, he trained as a painter at London’s Royal Academy Schools. His work has been selected for a number of group exhibitions, including the Royal Academy summer exhibition and the Doug Moran Portrait Prize. David Henderson has been the recipient of several awards including ‘best of show’ at Brisbane’s Rotary Art Spectacular in both 2012 and 2017. He has held solo exhibitions in Brisbane, Melbourne, London and Rome. This will be his first Sydney exhibition.
