Sirmano Solo Exhibition
Opening night - Thursday the 25th of October
6 pm - 9 pm
‘The Space Between’ is a solo show of new works by Sirmano. Sirmano is the alias of Anna Manolatos a Brisbane Artist and illustrator whose work is heavily influenced by the colour, patterns and energy from different cultures and the natural plant life around her. A running theme in her work are her characters, which are strong, heroic, independent beings who occupy a fictional space which is rich in playfulness and mystery.
‘The Space Between’ draws on our own feeling of displacement. As a daughter of an immigrant family she explores the theme through recognisable cultural artifacts from her heritage balancing it with the ever changing flora and landscape of the space where she lives. Her characters wear with pride as a second skin the struggles and beauty of being brought up with one cultural identity, finding the other in the home country where you reside and fitting somewhere in the space in-between.
Sirmano has exhibited her work nationally and internationally and contributed to street art festivals across Queensland. After graduating from the Queensland College Of Art, she studied illustration at the Alberta College of Art and Design, Canada, and taken part in an artist residency in Barcelona.
