Leigh Bisset Solo Exhibition
OPENING NIGHT - 6TH OF APRIL
6PM - 9PM
“PELAGIC” is a showcase of paintings by Leigh Bisset, birthed from a deep connection with the ocean, a strong passion to protect the creatures which roam the expanse, and the parallels we can draw with the human condition, particularly from these passed two years of fear and control.
In her “Free flow” series, seductive jellyfish are rendered larger-than-life in bold colours and charcoal detail, floating on crisp backgrounds. Their frills, like petals, pulse across the canvas – flowers of the deep. Leigh invites us to reflect on these other-worldly creatures, who possess no heart, brain or bones and yet exist. Perhaps the idea to live in the beauty of the present.
Leigh’s “Suspended by light” series celebrates the compelling mystique of humpback whales. They are universal invokers of awe and a cornerstone of our concern for the environment. Entwined and weightless, they are steeped in human emotion.
The work is sensual yet spiritual; figurative yet ethereal; simultaneously structured and abstract.
