Drawn to the present moment, just passing through is a series of photographs that explores the different moods and feelings of the Australian bush.
‘just passing through’ started with bright, late afternoon light. Filtering through the trees, it pulled focus onto the landscape in a way that I hadn’t noticed before, highlighting certain elements and keeping others in a deep shadow. What was once harsh turned soft, what was once soft, suddenly razor sharp. Over many hours spent walking the local bushland to my area, I begun to notice how the mood of the bushland changed with each time I passed through. The position of the sun in the sky, temperature, time of day, season. How the light filtering through the canopy created shapes and scenes which would last for a few minutes, then change.
This series aims to capture the beauty of those moments in the bush, in a real, present moment. The softness of the rainforest deep in the valleys as the last light fills in. The quiet of the gums as a shower of rain passes over. The quiet joy in a seedling basking in its hour of sunlight each day.
For this series, I traversed many of the gullies in my local area, and also explored further north to the rainforests of the mid north coast, and two images from ancient rainforests in Tasmania.
I hope this series inspires you in some way, shape or form.
