Kevin and Jay McKay

A father and son combine to showcase paintings that respond to Sydney’s urban and coastal environment.

Jay, a young artist, exhibiting in ARTEXPRESS 2024 at the Art Gallery of NSW, presents a suite of moody seascapes inspired by beaches in Sydney’s south where he finds emotional grounding in the ebb and flow of the sea.
His father, a seasoned urban landscape painter, presents work that alludes to Sydney’s place by the sea. While Kevin’s interest in architectural forms contrasts with Jay’s more painterly expressions of natural beauty, each responds to the drama of light, the poetics of space and the pursuit of the sublime in the world around them.

This exhibition is sponsored by Matt and Sue Quinliven in memory of their son, Troy Quinliven, a former alumnus of the National Art School.
