Arguably one of the most noteworthy and established Queer Artists residing in Australia, Guy James Whitworth’s work is both collectable and commercial, reinventing Queer iconography and interpreting it in a way that is poignant and relevant to a wider audience than just the LGBTQIA+ communities.
Although a self-taught artist, Whitworth’s elaborate painting style is evidently influenced by both neo-classic and pop art with references drawn from classical history and mythology. His work is held in high regard due to the impressive technical ability involved, a creative skill set that is rarely observed on the modern art scene.
This exhibition explores the artist’s direct experience of living amongst the 80’s HIV and AIDS epidemic. This exhibition (his 8th solo show) will also mark the anniversary of Whitworth’s first Sydney Exhibition 25 years ago.
