Lucks & Clay Smith Exhibition
This mid-career two artist show brings colourful, iconic and mystical new works from old friends who both have decades of artmaking, exhibiting and being collected widely behind them. The origins for the exhibition hark back to the beginnings when Lucks and Clay first began working together in 2015 at Jugglers, Brisbane’s flagship ARI for 20 years.
Both artists have collaborated previously with others, with Lucks mixing it up with David Bromley and Clay Smith combining with Simon Lovelace. They co-produced a monumental 78-meter mural with Sarah Sculley across a 4 year span from 2020 to 2023.
The display fuses two layered, stylistic, iconographies together in five collaborative works along with a plethora of solo works from each artist. Aesthetically amalgamating the Signwriting, Graffiti text and the figurative complexity of good and bad luck symbology of Lucks with Clay’s new juicy Surreal Naïve Still Water Landscapes in timeless fashion. Adding these works to your collection for first time or for serious collectors would brighten up any home with both artists collected nationally and internationally.
