Elliott Fox debut solo art exhibition on greyhounds and dog racing
+ side gallery Rescue Greyhound group exhibition
Elliott Fox is an early career artist and a passionate advocate for greyhounds, inspired by his rescue greyhound and artistic muse, Adam Barker. Elliott hopes his upcoming ‘Saint Grey’ solo art exhibition will become a beacon of hope and change for greyhounds across Australia and the world.
Greyhounds are the oldest breed of domestic dog and are very sensitive and attuned to people. Unfortunately, this has also made them susceptible to exploitation and abuse, especially as the second fastest land mammal, the racing industry has exploited this ability for the sole purpose of gambling. The contrast between their individual characters as family members versus the commoditisation in racing, presents a significant moral issue and the subject of this art exhibition.
The artworks in the exhibition consist of sculptures, paintings and prints. The centrepiece artwork is named ‘Saint Grey’ and gives its name to the exhibition. This commanding life-size sculpture of a greyhound with magnificent 1.5 metre angel wings, is about hope and reverence.
There are two parts to the exhibition -- the first examines the character and personality of greyhounds through Elliott's painting and screen print portraiture. The second part engages the audience on the topic of dog racing, using subtle messaging and symbolism to highlight the ignorance, complicity and apathy.
Elliott has also created a standalone website: https://greyhoundquiz.com/ that provides the audience with further context and insight into the exhibition. People are encouraged to test what they know about greyhounds and dog racing, and to further share this quiz with their family and friends.
