Daniel McMahon Solo Exhibition

Sydney-based artist Daniel McMahon presents épure - Studies in Graphite, an exhibition bringing together two interconnected bodies of work that explore graphite as both medium and subject.

Working exclusively in graphite, Daniel's practice moves between large-scale figurative drawings and abstract graphite fields. In the figurative works, the body is rendered with precision and restraint, suspended in moments of quiet tension. Drapery becomes atmosphere, while light emerges through processes of erasure and accumulation. Alongside these works, the abstract graphite fields dissolve form into surface, creating dense, contemplative spaces that sit between image and absence.

Shown together, the works trace a progression from void to form to presence. Through reduction, repetition, and the physical properties of graphite itself, épure considers what remains when image, narrative, and gesture are stripped back to their essential elements.

Positioning graphite not as a preparatory medium but as a resolved and complete form, Daniel's work reflects an ongoing commitment to clarity, restraint, and the quiet architecture of light.
