SAMOAN in Surry Hills is a prolific body of mixed media works exploring Raymond Tuifao Lalotoa’s fluency in urban and cultural pictoral languages.
This series is a portrait of the collision of the Sydney underground scene and Lalotoa’s Pacific Island heritage in strong graphic language and a hypnotic colour palette.
These new works take the viewer to a place that is not quite reality.
An eye blurring whirlitzer of words and abstracted events competing for space on the found object supports.
This ghetto-fied tumultuous world dares the audience to decide whether the occupants are cheerful or violent, waging war or composing.
'SAMOAN in Surry Hills' is Lalotoa’s first solo show of an ongoing concept exhibition ‘SAMOAN’ - touring through the universe and beyond.
Lalotoa is the founder of Sydney’s underground music movement MY SYDNEY RIOT and front man of Sydney based band Fait Accompli.
